End of an Era

I took this photo in September, I don't know why, only that i've always liked this building. It's part of a large group of buildings that have laid derilict for some years now that were formally owned by the Holman Bros. (Cornish Mining engineering company for those that don't know...*smile*)
To me it epitomises an era when Cornwall was at the forefront of its mining hayday and world renowned for it's technolgy and expertise. Twas once said, "Show me any mine in the world and i'll show you a Cornishman mining there".

Sadly whilst walking to work yesterday, i saw a demolition company in the compound and the roofs you see here are no more and i know that the rest of the buildings will be following suit. Change will always happen and is to be embracred, but somehow i know that coming home that way will never be the same!

  1. It makes me sad that this is going.... It has been here far longer than I have and it has an honest beauty....

  2. I have to ask what will replace this building, a houseing development site, another eyesore on the landscape, I would even put money on it, if there is a space going these days a houseing developer will snatch it up to line his pockets.
